Festivities in

Les Coves de Vinromà

Celebrate each season

Every season of the year brings joy, the hustle and bustle of traditions, the solemnity of the liturgy, overcoming challenges in sporting events in unforgettable scenery, and the music that beats powerfully in each of the festivities held in Les Coves de Vinromà.

FESTIVITIES

Sant Antoni

Dates: 17 January (approx.).
This event kicks off the festive events in Les Coves at the beginning of the year. The festival starts early in the morning when the Associació de Cavallistes horse riders begin their journey to the place where the fuel for the bonfire is kept. An open-air lunch is served there. At midday, the horses carry the ròssec into the square where the bonfire will later be made. In the afternoon, the animals are blessed and the traditional coques are given out to all those attending with a cup of hot chocolate and melindros. Finally, to end the day there is an open-air dinner.

Pasqua

Dates: From Maundy Thursday to Easter Sunday.
Holy Week begins on the morning of Good Friday with the Stations of the Cross procession. The candle procession takes place in the evening; the whole town accompanies the Holy Sepulchre on its way between Calvary Chapel and the church. The town’s main festival at this time is on Easter Day. The day begins with the traditional procession in which the quintos and quintas, together with the music band, accompany the two images. After the procession there is a brotherhood lunch for all of them and at midday the Tornada dels Quintos begins. This is the main event in Les Coves at Easter and it is when the quintos and quintas, young people who come of age during the year, walk through the village to the rhythm of the festive music played by the brass band. The townsfolk present them with baskets laden with food, money or the typical “tortà de quintos“, a cake made of almond paste. After walking the whole way and having eaten, the doors of Pista de la Ravaleta open and all the baskets and cakes awarded are displayed and handed out to those attending. This is a great attraction for the town, as the decoration makes many cakes true works of art.

Sant Vicent

Dates: Second Monday after Resurrection Sunday.
Sant Vicent Ferrer is celebrated on the second Monday after Easter Sunday. On this occasion the venue for the celebration is the chapel in honour of the saint. The festivity begins with a mass in honour of Sant Vicent at the chapel with a snack afterwards, consisting of chocolate and delgados.

April Fair

Dates: Holy Saturday.
In this event, organised by the Associació de Cavallistes Les Coves horse riders association, the village is imbued with the atmosphere of the Feria de Abril in Seville for an afternoon. Afternoon fun, flamenco and a great atmosphere fill the programme, offering a different kind of event at a time of year when the good weather is already encouraging people to get out of the house.

Youth Festivities

Dates: Last weekend of May and first weekend of June.
Organised by the Associació Joventut Covarxina youth association, open-air dances, bullfighting and street events take centre stage to encourage young people to get out of the house.

Book Day

Dates: First weekend after 23 April.
Book Day in Les Coves de Vinromà is a day on which we try to promote reading among people of all ages. During the day, children’s activities, workshops and talks take place, ending with the prize-giving ceremony for the Ramon Ramia Literary Competition.

Tasta’m Fair

Dates: First weekend in July.
The Tasta’m fair: Terrassa d’Estiu marks the starting point of the summer. This gastronomic fair has a very clear philosophy: to take to the streets and to promote local products from the surrounding area. In addition, live music and children’s workshops, as well as show-cooking, fill the programme and act as an attraction for the public. In addition, the programme is rounded off with a live broadcast of an opera performance from the Teatro Real in Madrid.

Theatre Festival

Dates: Third weekend in July.
Taking advantage of the good weather and the presence of the first tourists in the village, the Theatre Festival is held with the aim of bringing this artistic discipline to the public with performances and concerts for all ages. Throughout the weekend there is a succession of cultural events in the town. The programme starts late on Friday afternoon with an afternoon tea accompanied by local produce and music to encourage people to take part in the events scheduled throughout the weekend.

August Festivities

Dates: 14 to 23 August.
Between 14 and 23 August, the patron saint’s festivities are held in honour of Verge Maria de l’Assumpció and Sant Roc. The events begin with the charanga band and fireworks to kick off the festivities in the square, followed by the opening speech procession and the Brotherhood dinner. This is followed by two days dedicated to the patron saints, during which liturgical ceremonies are held. The festival programme continues with bullfighting, paella night, a fancy dress competition and night-time open-air dances. We can’t forget to mention our ball del pla, played every night by the music band and danced by local residents and visitors. The last day is known as Jewel Day. On this day, the first event is “las corridas” in which races of different types are organised by age group. Music and joy play the starring role during these days.

Sant Miquel

Dates: 29 September.
The festivity of Sant Miquel once again brings the local people together around the chapel of Sant Vicent where a mass is held in honour of the saint. Afterwards there is a brotherhood snack consisting of delgados and chocolate.

Tossal Trail

Dates: Weekend closest to 10 November.
Although this race has only been held four times, it is one of the most popular among runners in the province. With three different trails, the “kids” 4K TT for the youngest, the 14K Vuelta a la Morería and the 30K Tozal Trail, it is a great attraction for fans of this sport. Spectacular trails and wonderful views of the valley the town is in, as well as great organisation, are the main attraction of this sporting event.

Christmas Fair

Dates: First weekend in December.
On the first weekend in December, Les Coves welcomes Christmas with the traditional fair. In this event, local gastronomy and handicrafts are promoted to encourage local people and visitors to have a good time in company. The programme is designed for people of all ages with children’s workshops, guided tours of the Exhibition Hall, live music and the possibility of tasting the traditional products of this time of year at the fair itself.
