The sènia well trail aims to raise the prominence of Vall d’Alba’s outstanding agricultural heritage. These wells were used to extract water from the subsoil and convert dry land into irrigated land. They were activated by animal power, moving a horizontal wheel. Gears turned this into vertical movement through another larger wheel, which had codúfols (wooden, ceramic or iron vessels) that brought the water to the surface. The trail starts at what used to be the “El Pou Ample” rest area, where there is a large picnic area. There you can visit the well of Arab origin, which was sanitised a few years ago for domestic and agricultural use. It continues along the “El Regall” stream, where it offers clues about the water flowing beneath your feet. It continues between almond trees and numerous sènies, including Sènia del Rosso, which has been restored and is ready for use. You can also visit “La Senieta”, a very important well for the people of Vall d’Alba, where you can draw water by hand like in the olden days. Along the trail, you can enjoy several bucolic places such as “El Mas de Roures”, with its restored rustic group of houses, and “Mas la Blaya”. You then reach the end of the trail at Sant Cristòfol Chapel, with a beautiful panoramic view of Pla de l’Arc and Penyagolosa.
